My Child Wants to Play a Sport in Middle School. What Do I Do?

To be able to tryout for a sport:

  • All students must be registered for the sport by a parent or guardian
  • An updated Medical Eligibility Form must be on file with Nurse Cimmino
  1. Registration for athletics is now completed online through the Genesis Parent Portal.
  2. New NJ Department of Education Pre Participation Exam & Medical Eligibility Form
  3. Any medical questions, please reach out to Nurse Cimmino at (732) 291-1380 x -2707
  4. Any questions regarding specific sport team, please contact the coach directly via email

Student-Athlete Expectations:

Requirements for Participation and Eligibility
CO-CURRICULAR ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility to Participate in Interscholastic Sports and Extracurricular Activities:

  1. Any student who fails 2 or more courses will be placed in an Academic Review Period, will be required to meet with building administration and their parent/guardian in order to develop an action plan to remediate academic deficiencies.
  2. All students participating in interscholastic athletics or cheerleading shall be enrolled in physical   education, in either full or restricted programs.  All restricted programs shall be medically authorized.
  3. All students participating in more than one sport must complete, in its entirety, a physical eligibility form and have his/her health record reviewed before participation in practice or contests.
  4. If in the process of a physical examination preceding a student’s participation in athletics, the examining physician discovers in the student’s health history an incident of major surgery or other serious health conditions, the physical shall require an updated report form the student’s physician stating whether the student may or may not participate actively in the sport.  This also applies to those accepted as cheerleaders.
  5. If after an injury, illness or surgery, a participant is excused from athletics and physical education, he/she may not return to active participation until he/she presents a doctor’s release to the school nurse/coach.
  6. All students must be in attendance the day of to participate in practice and or competitions/events.
